Aquilegia vulgaris or Columbine is a European native but has naturalized in parts of eastern North America. It is a bushy, clump-forming perennial that typically grows in a mound 1.5-3′ tall  with thin, branching, leafy stems.

Sow:Start indoors 8-10 weeks before last frost; can direct sow in late Spring
Sow depth:Barely cover. Needs light to germinate.
Days to Germinate:25-35
Special Maintenance:Germination is enhanced by moist chilling at 38 degrees for 2 months.  A quick alternative to moist chilling is to place seed in paper towel, moisten towel and then place in freezer for a day or two.
